Sally Kewayosh
Sally Kewayosh is from the Walpole Island First Nation, with both Ojibwe and Cree ancestry and has recently returned to Western joining the Faculty of Media & Information Studies. Sally holds degrees in Film Studies from Western University and a Masters of Fine Arts in Film Production from New York University, The Tisch School of the Arts. As a First Nation woman, Sally creates films that inherently and overtly exemplify First Nation culture. While continuing her journey as a narrative storyteller, Sally founded her own production company, Achimowin Films. In addition to her latest film, three young ladies, Sally is developing her first feature film - the first of what will be many films featuring both First Nations people and culture to better educate the general public (and First Nations youth) about the realities of their communities. Sally's film ventures will also provide an avenue for giving back to the First Nation community through educational programs and serve as a window into what will be the realm of possibility for their futures. Sally has been awarded two Canada Council for the Arts grants for production of her latest short film “Spring Fever” (2015) and for the completion of two feature length scripts “Whitesnake” (2010) and “Pimatsiwin” (2017).
